The Dean Barrick column
Dean Barrick played for Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Cambridge United, Preston, Bury and Doncaster – and, as a manager, he led Hucknall Town to the FA Trophy final.
Now working as a teacher in Thailand, Barrick is a columnist for football websitewww.totalfootballmag.com.
Here, he gives his verdict on football’s hot topics of the last week.
In your opinion what was the best result in Thai League football over the last week?
Wuachon United’s 0-0 draw away against Buriram United on Monday night. The visitors went on the offensive in the first half and really should have gone in at the break in front. In the second half they were forced onto the back foot at the home side stepped up the pace, but they defended resolutely to earn a well deserved point against the defending champions, and red hot favourites, in an intimidating atmosphere.
Which Thai players have stood out for you?
I think the whole Bangkok Glass team performed well in their 4-1 home win over Samut Songkhram. This was definitely a team performance and it would be wrong to single out any one particular player. However, Teerathep Winothai’s goal was a bit special.
What in your opinion has been the best game in Thai football over the last week?
Of the four games I watched – one live, three on tv – I would have to say it was the aforementioned Buriram United v Wuachon United match. It was quite open – especially in the first half – and both teams created plenty of chances. Certainly one of the most entertaining goalless draws I’ve seen for a while, and proof that you don’t need a hatful of goals for an absorbing game of football.
