Bangtoey played in amateur competitions from 1976-1987, before entering the Royal Cup system in 1988 as Bangtoey Suwannoi. They gained 2 successive promotions before another name change took place. Sinthana continued the progress to the top cup competition, finishing 3rd in 1995 before the Thai Premier League was introduced 1996. As with their entry in the cup system, they tasted early success in the TPL, finishing 2nd in 1997 (and winning the FA Cup) and winning the title in 1998. They also won 2 Kor Royal Cups and were runners-up in the Queen’s Cup several times in this period. Since the turn of the century, their fortunes have waned. They suffered successive relegations in 2003/04 & 2004/05, while joining forces with Chulalongorn University to form Chula-Sinthana along the way. They immediately bounced back with 2 successive promotions to play top-flight football in 2008 as Chula United, but were relegated once again. In 2011, they split and moved away from the university (who formed Jamjuree Utd). The newly-named Big Bang Chula Utd gained promotion that year, only to be relegated again in 2012. BBCU have struggled to attract fans, partly due to being homeless since leaving Chulalongkorn. Whilst in Division 1, they use Army’s stadium, but TPL ground-sharing rules meant they rented Rajamangala Stadium in 2012. The cavernous international venue simply served to emphasise their lack of support.
