Part of the first TPL in 1996, Thai Tobacco Monopoly were relegated to Division 1 after just 1 season. After 4 seasons in the 2nd-tier, they gained promotion back to the top flight. They caused a surprise, winning the TPL in 2005, but spent most of their decade-long stay in the TPL as a mid-table club. They were relegated in 2012. TTM have struggled to adapt since the league adopted AFC rules in 2009, with their only real attempt to adjust being to relocate. However, they’ve failed to engage a fan-base, as they’ve impatiently moved from Bangkok to Samut Sakon (2009), Pichit (2010-2011), Chiang Mai (2012) & before a proposed move to Lopburi (2013), before behind the scenes disputes forced a return to Bangkok. In the boardroom, things aren’t much better, with coaches & players from 2012 still trying to claim unpaid salaries.
